The Sports Committee for the year 2007-2008 was formed in July ’07 under the able
Guidance of our Sports Coordinator Mr. Prakash Chandan and with the help of zmr. R.
Perumal and Mrs. Cassie Lopez. The following committee members gave their heart and
Soul in arranging for participation in the various inter collegiate events and organizing our own Annual Intra Collegiate Sports Event SPRINT ’07.
The Sports Calenda of our college started in July ’07 with our college students participating in the University Level tournaments ranging from Chess, Carrom, Table
Tennis, Badminton to Cricket and Football. The response for the various events held this
year has been comparatively huge when compared to the other years. The events had a
Preliminary zonal level tournament and later, winner advanced to the inter-zonal levels.
And of course, our students were a part of the inter-zonal event.
Our students also took part in the various inter collegiate event that were held by various
colleges all through the year and won Various accolades and the name and fame of our
college did shine in the sporting fraternity. A point to be mentioned is that the amount of
participation and interest shown by the girls in participating and winning various prizes
was dfinitely better than the year before. In short, it was the “year of the girls” when it
comes to sports.
Coming to SPRINT’07, it was a runaway success. It was held from the 20th of December
to the 22nd of December. The amount of entries registering themselves for the event
surpassed previous records. The various events were:
- Cricket
- Football
- Badminton
- Table Tennis
- Carrom
- Chess
- Tug of War
A special mention must be given to Junior College Students who took time off their
hectic academic schedule to take part in SPRINT having their preliminary exams right
around the corner. Hats off to them…!
To conclude, I would like to thank all the faculty members, all the students involved and committee members who have been of a great help in making this current academic year a memorable one as far as sports is concerned.
On behalf of the sports committee we would like to thank our Principal Dr. U. B. Jangam, Mr. Perumal, and Mrs. Cassie Lopez for their support and devotion to conduct various sports activities of this college. Let's hope that SIES (Nerul) brings more glory in the years to come.
