National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian government-sponsored program under the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. It was started in 1969.Contributes towards the socio-economic progress of the country,inculcating a sense of dignity of labour & providing social service to the society. Works for improvement & development of physical environment, Promotes National Integration & Social Harmony,Work towards a common goal- “WORLD PEACE”.

- NSS Orientation: The activities begin with the NSS Orientation which is given to the new volunteers to tell them about the activities conducted by the NSS during the academic year. Many students from all streams gave their name but only best 200 were selected, those who were genuinely interested.

- Blood Donation Camp: Held in association with Think Foundation & Samarpan Blood Bank.The First Camp was held on the 6th of August,2010,while The Second was held on 18 January,2011 Along with the Blood Donation Camp,a Thalessemia Check-Up Camp was also conducted for the Final Year Degree students from all courses,on 7 August,2010 & 18 January,2011.

| INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION |
- Pre independence celebration- From a week before the Independence Day, the nss volunteers started selling the flags. These flags were made by the mentally challenged children of high tech association. The money collected by selling the flags was given to them for their better future. Approximately 1000 flags were sold.

- ON INDEPENDENCE DAY- On 15th august, Independence Day was celebrated in the college by the NSS members. The NSS cell performed a skit which highlighted on the major problem of Corruption which exists in our system today.

- FLAGATHON- On 16th august Flagathon was conducted by the NSS unit along with SIESCOMS. In this programme the flags that were disposed on the roads was been collected by the NSS members. It was carried out all over Nerul next day early morning.

- Pulse-Polio drive: NSS Cell in Association with Rotary Club organized a Polio drive,in sector-21,Nerul on 22nd of August,2010 & 30th January,2011.The NSS volunteers themselves gave polio doses to the children ,helped to take care of the children & also Spread Awareness among the People.

- Save a Girl Child Week: NSS organized “Save a Girl Child Week” where importance was given to the girls to come forward & show their talent. The events were held on the 4th, 7th,13th & 14th of September respectively. The events were organized by boy volunteers to encourage girl student to come forward and participate in various activities. The events had huge participation from the girls as there were many events and all for them. The events were as follows:-

- NSS Publicity Week: The next event conducted by the NSS cell was University Level event called the NSS Publicity Week which was conducted from 25th-29th September. Various events were conducted namely

The event provd to be a Success, good participation from the students from various courses of the college. The Theme was “the Youth of today” which encouraged students from all the streams to participate with lot of interest.

- Garden Beautification: Like every year, this year also, NSS volunteers helped Brahmakumaris organization in maintaining their garden JAGATGURU GARDEN sec-21, Nerul. Activities like removing weeds, digging and planting around 70 rose samplings,were carried out.

- NEWSPAPER COLLECTION :. Around 45 kg of newspaper was collected by NSS Volunteers. Stationaries like pencil, eraser, scale, etc which is used by the children for studying purpose was purchased by that money & given to students of adopted area at Shivaji Nagar.

- CLEANLINESS DRIVES- On 11th September 2010 and 6th December 2010, cleanliness drives was organized in the college campus,wherein the NSS members cleaned the whole college. The NSS unit swept the whole college which was again cleaned up by water,including the college canteen.The whole unit was divided in groups and they were allotted specific region to clean so that the work get done soon.

- PEACE RALLY- On 29th November 2010, peace rally was organized, in Association with the Rotaract Club of our College. This rally was held from our college campus till the Palm Beach road. Students formed a chain in the whole process. All the students were in white dress in the rally. Even the RSR students from the St. Xavier’s school joined us. A big chain was formed near the palm beach road were the students were holding the hoarding to make the people aware of it.

- AIDS SURVEY : Aids survey was conducted on 1st December in the college. A survey was conducted in which 200 students were asked to answer the basic questions regarding aids.

- CANCER AWARENESS : On 7th December 2010, cancer awareness drive was organized in the auditorium of our college. In this drive the Mastectomes Association (INDIA) helped us out in it. The president Mrs. Vimal Kamath made nss volunteers aware about the various types of cancer. In this seminar, information regarding the breast cancer was also given. Also information regarding the detection and precautions to be taken was given. Then the queries of the students were also cleared. The pamphlets which were distributed were also a good source of information as they contained details like the name and the address of the hospital were treatment/operations takes place, detection precautions, diet, etc.

- CANCER AWARENESS IN ADOPTED AREA : Cancer awareness was held in the adopted area at Shivaji nagar on 8th December 2010. In this event, the NSS unit visited the adopted area and made the awareness of breast cancer over there. Pamphlets were distributed to all the people over there. It helped the people over there a lot. Over this entire event was very helpful for everyone and was a huge success.

- AIDS RALLY : Aids rally was organized by the NSS unit on 18thdec. The rally took place from the college till our adopted area in shivaji nagar. Many NSS volunteers participated in this rally. Everyone formed a chain throughout the rally. After reaching the adopted area, our volunteers distributed the pamphlets about aids in each and every house in that area. They even guided the people for the same.

- LITERACY CAMPAIGN : Literacy campaign was carried out by NSS volunteers from 15th to 24th December’10 at SKILLS AND ABILITIES School, Nerul. They took regular classes for the mentally retarded students of this school. Along with regular chapters, art & craft, drawing, storytelling etc. On request from school, this year the volunteers also showed various animated movies to the mentally challenged students. It was one of the most memorable and life time experience project carried out by the volunteers.

- AIDS AWARENESS : Aids awareness was organized in the adopted area at Shivaji Nagar on 2nd January 2010. Dr. Aboli Deshmukh gave the information and guided the people over there about what all precautions should be taken to avoid aids and even told about the symptoms of it. She even cleared all the doubts of the people over there regarding aids. Overall it was a good event. Posters and pamphlets also helped in clearing their doubts.

- HEALTH TIPS : The NSS unit made the awareness about the basic health tips in over all college. They made the awareness of the basic health tips which the student actually forgets in day to day life like personal hygiene, food habits, cleanliness around surroundings, etc. Class to class campaign was held by them. Even posters were stuck outside each class of the college and even in the canteen area and the notice board.

- DISASTER MANAGEMENT : Disaster management took place on 4th January 2011 in the GST auditorium of our college. Many NSS volunteers were present for this event. Two people came from the community known as SWAYAM (a community based disaster risk management programme) to give us the seminar. In the first half, they shared information about their organization and even how they help out the people at the time of disaster. The second half consisted of various a practical sessions such as tying of robes, lifting the injured people, bandaging the injured people, etc. Even they guided us about the precautions to be taken to avoid the disasters especially manmade disaster. Then at last all the volunteers were given the certificates by them for attending the seminar. It overall helped the volunteers to enhance the knowledge on disaster management.

- 7 Days Residential Camp : It was organized from 8th January to 14th January’11 at Sane Guruji Smarak, Mangoan. Alongwith daily prayer, yoga, exercise and shraamdaan, newspaper reading, many other activities were conducted. Session on various topics like Star gazing, Global warming, Yuvashakti, Gender Inequality etc were organized. Also various competition like Best out of waste, Admad, Spoof a movie, Group Singing, Group dance, Skit etc were organized. The nss volunteers also made visit to nearby villages and conducted survey as well as performed skit for villagers. Also sports day was organized for small children of village.

- ROAD SAFETY RALLY: On 25th Jan 2011, road safety rally was organized alongwith BMM course. This event took place from our college campus till Palm Beach road, Vashi. Students formed a chain in the whole process. This rally was basically organized for the road safety as many accidents occur in that area.

- Self Defense Workshop : on 11th February nss volunteers participated in Self Defense Workshop conducted by WDC. In this workshop the volunteers were given training on basic defense techniques.

- SPORTS DAY : On 13TH Feb, the NSS unit organized a sports event for the small children in the adopted area. Many games were held for them like dog in the bones, chocolates race, sag race, three legged race, etc. The NSS volunteers volunteered all the children over there. The children were very enthusiastic for the same. The winners were provided with prizes for the same

- University Camp: Along with these events the NSS also sent two volunteers to the University Camp which included 33 colleges from the Mumbai suburbs. The camp was held from 6th-10th September. The camp was basically on Leadership training so that these volunteers could go and lead their college in future events.

- NSS Unit had also organized Traditional Day and Republic Day.
