Co-Curricular Activities
Activities for the academic year by various forums, clubs and departments
In the academic year 2010 – 11, SIES (Nerul) College of Arts, Science & Commerce conducted various events and a few more are either being conducted currently or are slated for the near future.

The activities are organized by the various committees headed by the staff of the college.
Given below is a consolidated report of all the different committees of the college.
Grievance Redressal Committee Report
34 students from various departments applied for revaluation on 7th June. The revalued results were put up on 21st June , 2010.
Student Council Committee
  • July  -  Formation of the Student’s Council.
  • 25th July – Former Member of Student’s Council. Mr. Akshay Pradhan addressed the member of Student’s Council.
  • 2nd August -  Friendship Day was Celebrated.
  • 15th August – Celebration of Independence Day. The Inauguration of Student’s Council.
  • 6th September -  Teacher’s Day was celebrated.
  • September -  The Work for SIESONS commences.
Attendance Committee Report
Attendance Committee of SIES (Nerul) is in charge of preparing the Attendance Defaulters List. Course wise   Attendance defaulter’s list will be prepared on first week of every month. As per the Mumbai University Rules, 75% attendance is compulsory. Students having less than 75% attendance are defaulters in attendance. Defaulter’s list will be displayed on the notice board. Parents of the defaulters will be asked to meet the Course co coordinators on specific dates. This helps in improving their attendance.
Staff Academy Report
On 13th August, 2010 the staff academy arranged a lecture on ‘Investment Planning’ for the degree and Junior teaching staff members. The speaker Mr. Vinod Sawant, a certified Investment Planner enlightened us above the various investment avenues. The Session was quite informative and interactive and was highly appreciated by the staff.

On 8th September, 2010 a dialogue between the counselor Ms. Preeti Vasudevan  and the teaching staff was organized. The main purpose of this meeting was to help the teachers to mentor the students in their capacity. She also scheduled meetings with the students from different streams.

The staff members celebrated Navratri with full gusto. As per the theme colour for the days the teachers and office staff dressed to the occasion. On 14th October, 2010 a group photograph (theme-Yellow) was taken and sent to Navbharat Times for it to be published in the next days edition. Everyone was overwhelmed to see themselves in the newspaper the next day.

The upcoming activities planned for the term are as follows : -

  • Stress busters for the teachers in the form of games on 27th & 28th October, 2010.
  • Computer training (MS. Office) for the teaching staff and database management training for the non-teaching staff.
  • Food-Fiesta for the teachers on 22nd October, 2010 is arranged for the teaching staff. This is an initiative taken by the staff academy to wingle the cultures and traditions of the teachers from different parts of India

Discipline Committee
The Discipline Committee for the academic year 2010 – 11 has been constituted. The following faculty members were installed as the members of the committee.

    • Ms. Koel Roy Choudhury – Member
    • Ms. Lynette Rebello
    • Ms. Poonam Chindarkar

    A meeting was convened by the Principal and the Code of Conduct for all the students were framed. The committee takes case of activities pertaining to the maintenance of discipline within the college premises. The following  are some of the codes.

    • Usage of Mobile Phones in the premises
    • Dress Code
    • Wearing Id Cards
    • Ragging
    • Smoking
    • Loitering / Bunking of Lectures.
ISO Surveillance Audit
The surveillance audit for the academic year 2010-2011 was held on the 7th October 2010. It was conducted as a Review Audit since we had completed a cycle of five years.
The following were some of the observations made by the auditor.
Internal audits and reviews carried out by the organization are effective.
Organization has benefited with the management system implementation. The system covers the core processes of imparting education.
Institute has a constant endeavor to involve the students in various activities which enhance learning
    • There is a constant endeavor to ensure that the agreed deliverables in the teaching plan are completed. Where required extra classes are taken to complete the planned sessions.
    • Infrastructure is adequate for the current load.
    • Institute is facing a challenge with regard to recruitment of teaching staff. Institute plans to have a plan for mentoring new teaching staff.
    • Objectives would continue to be monitored.
The following were some of the recommendations made by the auditor during the course of the audit.
  • Institute should find ways of sending information directly to parents. Explore possibilities of a net based system which parents can directly access.
  • Improve management review reporting
  • Mentoring of new teaching staff
Management review reporting to be more detailed. It could include activities which the institute undertakes to enhance the overall learning experience.
  • This would include the additional paper sets that are solved by the students and corrected by the teachers and feedbacks provided. 
  • Formal interaction done by the Principal and the teachers with student defaulters and parents who visit the school with this regard needs to be recorded.
  • Actions taken on the customer feedback could also be evidence though the report
There were no major non conformities reported during the audit process.
 
Department of Information Technology and Computer Science conducted a National Research Conference in association with Patni Computers on 12th February 2011
